Porsche has unveiled a new lighter, more powerful version of the Cayman coupe at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
The Cayman R sheds 55kg and gains 10bhp compared to the Cayman S and will arrive in the Middle East in March 2011.
The mid-engined coupe gets its 330bhp from a 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine, powering the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual gearbox or a twin clutch PDK automatic transmission.
Porsche says the Cayman R was developed with the aim of further improving performance by reducing its weight to 1,295kg through the use of lightweight components and less equipment. As an example, the 19-inch wheels are the lightest in the Porsche range and weigh less than 40kg in total.
The R is also 20mm lower than the Cayman S and comes with a fixed rear spoiler, silver painted wheels and various touches both outside and in. Black framed headlights, black exterior mirrors and Porsche lettering on the side of the car take design cues from Porsche’s racing cars, specifically the 1967 911 R, the first vehicle with the R designation.
The basic price of the Cayman R for the GCC markets will be 63,490 USD (233,193 AED, a hike of around 22,000AED on the Cayman S).
