Mazda has unveiled the all-new Mazda5 mini-van and the radically styled Shinari concept at the ongoing LA Motor Show.
The Mazda5 is a compact van which can seat up to six adults across three rows. It features Mazda’s ‘Nagare’ flowing design language which syncs it with the rest of Mazda’s family. The old Mazda5’s 2.3-litre engine has been replaced by a more powerful 2.5-litre unit for the US version. This motor produces 157bhp and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.
Mazda’s stand at the LA show also has on display the Shinari concept which is making its world debut. The Shinari concept is an evolution of Mazda’s ‘Nagare’ design language and blends in a new ‘Kodo’ or ‘soul of motion’ design theme. While the Shinari concept will not make it to production, many of its design elements are expected to be seen on future Mazdas.
