    Vehicle Highlights

The 2011 Mercury Mariner is largely unchanged for its final model year. This compact SUV shares its basic design with the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute. Note that Ford is phasing out the Mercury brand,
a process scheduled for completion by the end of calendar-year 2010. Mariner is a 5-passenger, 4-door wagon that has a liftgate with opening glass. Base and uplevel Premier trim levels return. Each has a 171-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. A 240-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 that can run on E85 ethanol-blended fuel is optional. Both engines team with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Also returning is the gas/electric Hybrid that teams a 153-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gas engine with a battery-powered electric motor. It requires no plug-in charging and can run on one or both of its power sources to balance acceleration and fuel economy. Hybrids have a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that behaves much like an automatic. Maximum towing capacity is 1,500 pounds for 4-cylinder models, 3,500 pounds for the V6. All Mariners are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags. Leather upholstery is standard on the Premier and optional on the Base and Hybrid. Rear-obstacle detection, rearview camera, dual-zone automatic climate control, a navigation system, hard drive for storing digital-music files, and a hands-free parallel parking system are available on the Premier and Hybrid.

Pricing Key: Retail prices listed with each report are set by the vehicle's manufacturer. These figures appear on each car's federally mandated window sticker. Most price lists also include dealer-invoice prices. Dealer-invoice prices are what the dealer pays the manufacturer for the car and its factory-installed options. The destination charge is not included in the suggested-retail or dealer-invoice price and must be added to the cost of the vehicle. Car companies change prices frequently throughout the year. If the prices published do not match those on the vehicle's window sticker, the manufacturer has probably altered the price recently.
